Hi there! I appreciate you joining me on this journey 😚

So, I’ve decided to pursue a career in entertainment!

I’ve actually always had the aspirations of being both an actress and a model. As well fantasies of creating music. The industry was very welcoming when I first dipped my toes in the water. But now, I’ve made to choice to veil my face- which I don’t see representation of. Do I still have a chance?

Beautiful day lovely humans,

I created this website after reaching out to a local talent agency for advice on navigating the industry. I’ve actually had the pleasure of working with them before. My grandmother was the one who told me they were casting background actors for a featured film.

The receptionist informed me that I’d need to submit an application for representation before I could be considered for a conversation. To which, I thought, ‘no shade at all!’ I also apply a process for consideration for entrance into my life.

Listen,

When I went to this website && saw all that they wanted- none of which I had (except for the resume) I was like, yo 😩

So, I had it all planned out right? I steamed five outfits. I had a broken tripod, (technically, it’s a ‘quad-pod’ because a ‘tripod’ would have three legs. this one had four) that I gorilla glued back together. && reached out to some folk to see if they could help me take photos.

I spoke with the receptionist early in the AM on Thursday. Figured I could knock this little project out over the weekend. && follow up with the agency on Tuesday. Seems legit right?

Friday: I got my outfits together.

Saturday it rained all day. Leading me to do other things. I do not recall what those things were. I do know that it was not working on the project 😅 In hindsight, I think I thought whatever I threw together would instantly be ‘so’ amazing that I’d knock it out of the park on the first try!

Sunday, it was beautiful outside. I got dressed bright & early to take photos in my first outfit. The one with the black headwrap & gemstone headband. I chose this after seeing that the temperature would be in the 80’s. Wouldn’t want to be wearing tights later in the day.

I hadn’t heard back from anyone who I reached out to see if they’d come over to take pictures of me. So, I grabbed my gorilla glued ‘tripod’ && headed out back to take pictures of myself.

Of course, I searched Pinterest for modeling poses. I practiced one in the mirror (as seen in the featured image at the top of this webpage) && just improvised on the rest 😅

There are actually a lot of pictures that didn’t make the cut for the website. I was outside taking photos, for over an hour. It was starting to get warmer. && I underestimated the level of athleticism and creativity needed for different poses.

Specifically, with the featured hero image of the homepage- which happens to be my favorite picture! In order for me to capture that image the ‘tripod’ had to be further back from me. Thankfully my phone has a 10 second timer 🙈 I would go start the camera, && then run back to my spot, get down in that pose. && then I’d go back over to the camera, to critique the photo. I was like, ‘extend the leg more’ ‘bring the arm down some’ ‘twist in a bit like this.’

Then I got invested

&& really wanted a good shot at with this background. So, I just kept doing it, and doing it, and doing it, until I felt like it was the best that I could do. The majority of that photoshoot was spent on that shot, and me in the trees 😅 The ground was wet, the trees were wet- but we got it done!

I came back inside to grab a bite to eat && my ‘tripod’ completely broke 😭 I was devastated. Thankfully my aunt texted me back asking what time I wanted to take pictures later. We were able to get a couple of good shots in a different outfit.

The monologue could really use some work

To be fair, I’ve always wanted to play the ‘off one’ in a thriller. && I can remember picking this one out back when I was working with my first acting coach. Found it on google somehow.

I always came off in kind of way that represents how I’d expect to see someone portray that role. So, I’m going to go back and do some character development to really bring it to life.

As of yet, I haven’t seen anyone performing this monologue. I’d like to only be inspired by my own original idea. && after I get this scene down, I’ll go on to read the full play.

I have an idea of the way I’ll move forward with it.

Honestly, the idea of how to film the demo reel is absolutely stunning to visualize. I’m going to continue to update the monologue over time as I improve.

I’m thinking some voice acting could be really cool too.

So, I’ll be updating that page as well. If not on this website, then on the new one. You can continue to read updates to the blogs here. But I’m going to create a website for my professional portfolio. Honestly, I’d like to commence my journey && the fact that I put all of this together in a weekend. Monday was a holiday, (Memorial Day) so I was able to use that time to assemble the website itself.

Thankfully, I already had the domain name, which allowed me the option to create a subdomain. Did I mention that the budget for putting together this portfolio was zero dollars and zero cents? 🤣

I received a ‘noreply’ email from the talent agency. But that’s okay!

This allows me much more creative freedom. I can be seen as ‘a lot.’ I veil my face. I speak on topics that may raise an eyebrow or two. && I come with my own standards for agreements. I’m sure it’s better for me to pave my own way.

With that being said, I’ll be keeping this website as an example of how to put together a talent portfolio in a weekend. && I’ll continue to document my journey as an independent entertainer here as well.

Thank you

So much for taking the time to read this blog post. I truly do appreciate you 😚 Remember, all things are possible- they are! The best is yet to come. && the odds are always in your favor. Take care!
